Mobile connectivity is a cornerstone of digital economic growth, enabling innovation, productivity and inclusion. Sustained investment in resilient network infrastructure is essential to meet evolving connectivity demands. Policymakers and regulators play a critical role in establishing enabling frameworks that encourage sustainable capital deployment by operators and ecosystem partners, ensuring long-term digital competitiveness and societal benefit.
 
This two-day course will provide an overview of mobile network investment, exploring the evolution of the mobile ecosystem, the strategic value of infrastructure and regional market dynamics. It will also cover key investment drivers, regulatory and taxation challenges and policy measures to support a more sustainable environment for mobile infrastructure investment.
Course Objectives
  • Understand the foundational role of mobile connectivity in shaping and supporting digital economies.
  • Analyse the structure of the mobile ecosystem, identifying the functions of key players such as operators, infrastructure providers, device manufacturers, content/app providers and cloud/hyperscale companies.
  • Evaluate the transition from traditional, vertically integrated telecommunications models to modern platform-based approaches within the industry.
  • Trace the technological evolution from 2G/3G voice and SMS services to advanced technologies such as 4G, 5G, 6G, IoT, AI and cloudification.
  • Examine the impact of digital platforms and multisided market dynamics on policy, investment and national competitiveness.
  • Discuss the strategic importance of creating a sustainable investment environment for mobile infrastructure.

To qualify for a course completion certificate, you must view all the course sessions and answer correctly all the quiz questions you will find as you progress through the sessions. You will also need to fill out the course survey.
You do not have to complete a final project to earn a course completion certificate but we strongly encourage you to create one. Putting together a final project will give you an opportunity to reflect on the principles covered during the course and help you discover how they could be applied to your own country. If you submit a final project the course trainer will provide you with valuable feedback that you may find useful in your day-to-day work.
 
Course Structure and Study Time

Course Structure and Study Time

The course consists of eight sessions, and you will gain access to all of them on the course start date. You can ask questions about the content of the course during the live chat sessions as well as on the course forum.

There will be two live chat session during this course. You should view all course content before the last chat session takes place. However, you will have three extra weeks to complete the course. If after nine weeks you have not completed the course, you will have to start it again next time it is offered.

It should not take you more than two to three hours of study time per week to complete the course in six weeks.

If you decide to submit a final project, it should take you four to six hours to complete. You will have nine weeks to submit your final project.
